Typhoid Surviellance in Nepal
We are here in Nepal to study their surviellance system. Nepal is known as Enteric fever city of the world. they have so many cases of confirmed typhoid. We medics use the term CONFIRMED when we are able to grow micro organisms from the patients.
Patan Hospital in Lalitpur has been conducting the study for long time and it is on-going. As per their data, the peak season for typhoid fever is summer season. As per Dr. Amit, an Oxford scholar, prevelance is about 300 in 100000 people. Kathmandu has about 3 million people. So there are about 10000 people suffering from typhoid every year.

Hotel Clarion, Lalitpur: Beaware Bhutanese and international fellas!
We landed at Kathmandu international Airport at around 10:20(Bhutan standard time). We were told by our counterpart that hotel Clarion in Lalitpur is booked for us. An old Carina car picked us up at the airport after a much search.
we were cramped into a small room, specifically room number 304. we were tired and went off to sleep immediately.
Before I went to sleep, i took out 400US $ in my pants pocket and put it in front pocket of my over coat. Thinking that i would require to wear it the next day. But when we wake up in the morning the next day, the weather was quite warm and i thought it is not necessary to wear the over coat. And thus left 400 dollars in the room.
today morning, Mr. Kanchan of WHO nepal picked us up and dropped us at Patan Hospital. Inthe afternoon they decided to shift us to different hotel. when we went to check out, they had already cleaned our room. without checking we checked out after paying all the applicable charges and did not find any fishy acts.
We finished our visit for the day day at around 4 40pm. upon reaching the hotel i went on to check my pockets as my mind was telling me something is not alright. When i checked my pocket my dollars were gone!
Though,it was partly my fault to leave cash at hotel, but it does not mean that these uncultured ones should check all the nook and corners of our pockets. I am not writing to get sympathy from my friends but because this thing can happen to you day. Do not check into this hotel. You may be the next victim.
